Rules / Regulations
What are the Rules and Regulations of the BMO Vancouver Marathon?

The following is a list of the most important rules and regulations surrounding the event.  Please check out the race FAQ for more questions and answers.

  1. Age Restrictions: You must be 16 years of age or older on race day to be eligible to participate in the Marathon and Half Marathon.   Parents/guardians are urged to ensure that young runners have the training and pace judgment needed to complete the event comfortably and safely. BMO Vancouver Marathon Directors and staff reserve the right to require proof of age.
  2. Prohibited Items: The use of strollers, bicycles, inline skates, pets, and elite pacing are strictly prohibited. The right to disqualify runners who fail to comply with these regulations is at the sole and exclusive decision of the Board of Directors of the Vancouver International Marathon Society (“VIMS”).
iPods/MP3 players/headphones: The race directors prohibit the use of these devices for the runner's safety and the safety of those around them. There is no risk of disqualification for simple use, however, if a runner puts themselves or other runners at risk through an unsafe act that the Board of Directors determine was caused directly or indirectly through the use of a prohibited item, the race directors reserve the right to disqualify the runner.
  3. Pacing Requirement: There will be designated check points along the course with authorized course marshals that monitor and encourage runners to stay on pace and to ensure completion within the cut off time.  Sweep vehicle will be available for pick up if necessary.
  4. 6+ Hour Restriction: Is no longer applicable (will be updated shortly on registration page). Marathon course is open 8am - 4pm and the Half Marathon course is open 7am - 11am.

  5. Course Availability: All race courses are limited to registered participants only.
