Being ranked one of the most scenic marathons and premier destinations for 2014 encapsulates our vision of being one of the top marathons in the world.
Vancouver, BC – February 11, 2014 – The BMO Vancouver Marathon has again received the coveted designation of one of the world’s best marathon locations for 2014 by Forbes magazine. The annual Forbes Travel Guide list was released January 29th featuring other world-renowned courses such as the Great Wall Marathon, Virgin Money London Marathon, and the prestigious Boston Marathon. Though Forbes did not release a list for 2013, the BMO Vancouver Marathon also made the top ten marathon destinations in 2012.

The leading global media source acknowledges the diverse, scenic route of the BMO Vancouver Marathon which includes snow-capped mountain views, cherry blossom trees, and 70% course shoreline. Described as “Hollywood North” with panoramic views, the article also states that the redesign of the point-to-point course in 2012 “takes more advantage of the scenic city sites, including its unique neighbourhoods, world-class parks, and its expansive seawall.”

This significant recognition by Forbes is another indicator that the BMO Vancouver Marathon is gaining awareness and popularity among runners around the world. Known as one of Canada’s oldest and largest running events, the BMO Vancouver Marathon will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Half Marathon and the 43rd running of the Marathon on Sunday, May 4th. Current registration for all events is tracking ahead of last year with an expected early sell-out; registration is projected to close April 4, 2014.

“We are honored to be recognized by Forbes magazine for the second time,” says Charlene Krepiakevich, Executive Director of the Vancouver International Marathon Society, the non-profit organization in charge of the BMO Vancouver Marathon.

“Being ranked one of the most scenic marathons and premier destinations for 2014 encapsulates our vision of being one of the top marathons in the world. Registration is moving at a brisk pace, so I would definitely encourage runners to sign up as the added recognition of our world-class event is sure to boost global awareness.”
