Canuck Place Children's Hospice

Extending Reach

2010 represents a milestone year in Canuck Place history. Not only are we celebrating 15 years of service to BC children and families, but we are making plans to build a second hospice in Abbotsford to meet a growing need for pediatric palliative care.

Canuck Place plans to build a 10-bed, 20,000 square foot hospice in Abbotsford which will essentially double our capacity. The Abbotsford location will make our program available closer to home for many BC children and families in the Fraser Valley and the Interior, lessening their need for travel. The operations of the Abbotsford hospice will be phased in over a 3-5 year period, beginning with a consultation team, outpatient clinic and support groups, then 3-4 beds open 24 hours per day, working incrementally to a fully operational 10 bed children’s hospice as funding is secured on an ongoing basis.

“As we embark on our capital campaign, we are extremely grateful to be one of the marathon’s designated charities,” says Filomena Nalewajek, CEO, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. “Thanks to the generosity of each participant who supports us, we are one step closer to reaching our vision of seeing that all BC children with life-threatening illnesses and their families have access to our program at no charge to them.”
