This year look for exciting entertainment at stations along both the half and marathon courses. There will be 30 bands and music groups on course. All of the on-course entertainment will be there for participants and spectators to enjoy free of charge!

Keeping musical storytelling at the forefront, COLDWATER ROAD is a three-to-six-piece folk band from Vancouver. Driven by country blood, the songs of CwR’s Patrick Spencer were born around the campfire and seasoned on the seawalls of False Creek. These are lyrical folk songs with cowboy tendencies.

Patrick first assembled the group in early 2012 to prepare for a Music BC Demo Grant. (recorded by Chris Michel at Hipposonic West), and quickly thereafter, the group won Ceili’s “Acoustic Battle of the Bands”. After that, they were Semi Finalists in the “Voice of the Cellar” contest.

Missy Cross (vocals) and Patrick (vocals/guitar) had worked together in the theatre world, while Alex Hauka (cello), Ryan Smith (banjo/drums) and Steph Hodgins (bass) were promptly wrangled through the open-mic community. Steven Beddall, of Wooden Horseman was naturally added on the drums.

The Carnival Band is a community music project with ten years of history, based out of Commercial Drive’s Britannia Community Centre. Musical direction is provided byRoss Barrett and Tim Sars.

Instrumentation for the band includes all range of brass, woodwinds, drums, percussion, accordions, and of course voice. Stage shows also allow us the opportunity to join our bass, guitar, fiddle, banjo, piano, and keyboard playing friends.

A community world percussion youth group. They perform fun and challenging rhythms from Africa, Brazil and are presently working on expanding their repertoire. Besides playing percussion instruments they also sing a selection of vocal arrangements. They are a great inspiration for the youth.

This exciting group rehearses and performs under the direction of David DiTomaso. The group is opened to all musicians (beginner to intermediate levels) not just percussionist.

Fiddlin’ Frenzy is a pair of BC sibling phenoms who have taken the Western competitive fiddle scene and talent shows by storm. Released 3 CDs on demand, they are number 1 on the ReverbNation Celtic charts for Abbotsford, BC, CA. And 177 on the National Radio Chart. And they are also one of the distinguished music groups represent Canada to perform in 15 Olympic games. And they did a speech for Tedxkids at Telus Science World to inspire other kids.

Freddy Fuddpucker and His Rolling Clones is ragtag group of misfits, a gang ranging between 10 and 30 people (depending on what day it is), with members of literally all ages!

Will Freddy saunter down the street for a parade in his trademark kilt and hard hat? Or will he stay in one place to do a stand up gig, leading the kids in the crowd as they borrow the band’s many percussion toys? Who knows? He’s a tough man to predict, that way.

The Drive Street Band is a community musical group based out of the Britannia Community Centre on Commercial Drive. We welcome anyone interested in joining a band, regardless of age, background, instrument or musical experience and no auditions required.

The Drive Street Band was founded by community members in September 2009. We have two musical directors: Cory Sweet, who leads the horn section and Kenan Sungur, who leads the percussion section.  We rehearse at the Britannia 55+ centre most Sundays from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. There is a sliding-scale suggested donation of $2 to $5 that goes directly to keeping this little community band going.

The BC Trees are not a typical hip-hop band. Their socially conscious lyrics transcend the genre and the musical range makes them appeal to an intelligent audience. Matt’s lyrics are backed by solid beats, guitar riffs and bass lines. The BC Trees have been performing in various forms for over 10 years and have built a loyal following. Fans are spread out all over North America and Europe. They are regulars at the Anza Club in Vancouver, a hotbed of local talent. They’ve thrown down at the Backstage Lounge, the Railway Club, the legendary Richards on Richards (R.I.P.) and recently made their first road trip to Vancouver Island where they performed at the March Against Monsanto protest at the BC Legislature.

Creole Jazz Band

The Creole Jazz Band is a 5 piece ensemble that recreates the unique Dixieland music of New Orleans in the first quarter of the 20th century.  We bring you that joyous Early Jazz music which was influenced by the Marches, Spirituals, and Ragtime music of that era.

Their arrangements are true to the ensemble format found in the music of legends like Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton as well as numerous other pioneers of Jazz.

They also feature the music of the swing era as well as Latin music and waltzes.
