To create a world class Marathon offering a fast marathon course, attracting both elite and recreational runners and walkers, and a series of associated recreational events to encourage community and corporate involvement.
 
The BMO Vancouver Marathon is wholly organized and operated by the Vancouver International Marathon Society, a non-profit, volunteer run organization (Registration number S22985).
 
To make the BMO Vancouver Marathon a reality, the Society relies on a dedicated group of volunteer Board of Directors and over 1,700 invaluable support volunteers, with a single common thread - a love of Wellness and the sport of long distance running. A member of the Association of International Marathons and Road Races (A.I.M.S.), the Society has been in existence since 1986 having organized the first Vancouver International Marathon in 1987, and has been wholly responsible for the staging of this fantastic event.
