Margaret Buttner: Margaret’s a graduate of the Sauder School of Business. She spent 17 years in a variety of marketing roles in Canada and the US and moved to the non-profit sector in 2001. She’s held fundraising positions with BC Children’s Hospital Foundation and St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation, and currently works for The Arthritis Society as their Manager of Annual Giving. She’s very active with Lions Gate Road Runners, who founded the marathon in 1971, and also sits on the board for the UBC Grand Prix. While not the fastest runner on the course, she enjoys participating in 5km, 10km and half-marathons – taking time to enjoy the scenery.
Andrea Eby: Andrea has worked in the event industry in various capacities; Nagano Olympic Bidding Committee, Ironman Japan, and World Indoor Track and Field Championships, Lang and Associates, and as a VANOC Volunteer. She has a Master’s in Physical Education and teaches at Capilano University. Andrea is very involved in the community, running Half Marathons, cycling in Fondo events, coaching and playing Field Hockey, and teaching group fitness and spin.
Shelley Grisbrook: Shelley has an extensive background in Fitness and Marathons, both locally and abroad. Having spent several years living in Hawaii, she was recognized in the Elite category for the Honolulu Marathon for eight consecutive years, and was honored to be invited to Ichinoseki, Japan, as an Ambassador of Honolulu in 2007. Other distinguished marathons on Shelley’s resume include Boston, New York, Victoria and Vancouver. Currently, she is working in the film industry as an Environmental/Sustainability Coordinator and teaching fitness classes in and around Vancouver.
Gillian McCombie: Gillian is a senior HR professional with 16 years experience in both the mining and telecom industries. She worked in six different countries at the operational, corporate, and international levels, with a strong background in succession planning, talent management, strategic recruiting, employee engagement, policies and procedures and international service. She recently joined Capstone Mining and is responsible for the overall strategic HR function for the organization. Gillian holds a BA in English from UBC and is pleased to sit on the board of the Vancouver International Marathon.
Kristi Miller: Kristi is the co-founder and Vice President of First West Capital, Western Canada’s fastest growing subordinated and mezzanine debt fund for the mid-market. She has almost 20 years of broad ranging financial industry experience. Kristi holds an MBA in international business from UBC and a BA in history and Russian studies from McGill University. She is past-president of the Association of Women in Finance, vice chair of the VIMS and former chair of the B.C. Provincial Child Care Council. Kristi has completed four marathons and plans to complete her fifth – in Vancouver – in May 2013.
Cathy Paterson: Cathy is the Principle of Altitude West Communications. Cathy was the first Executive Director for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Canada. Over the last ten years she has retained a variety of not for profit clients, including the Rick Hansen Foundation, BC Wheelchair Sports, The Directorate of Agencies for School Health, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice and Capilano University. With a passion for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, Cathy has completed eight marathons, including Boston and New York. She has also completed three Gran Fondo events and is an Ironman.
Magnus Verbrugge: Magnus is a partner with the Financial Services Group at Borden Ladner Gervais. His practice is focused on insolvency and restructuring, and commercial lending. Magnus graduated from the University of Toronto with an LLB (1997), MBA (1997) and BA (1993). He is the Chair of BLG Reads to Kids, a charity through which employees of the law firm supply new books and conduct one-on-one reading sessions with inner city elementary school students. Magnus is also a director of the Vancouver International Marathon Society. He stays fit through his passion for running, hiking, and cycling in his spare time. When he’s not on the move, Magnus’ other passion is reading.
Wendi Campbell: Wendi is an effective business professional with senior leadership experience across multiple disciplines including Human Resources, Consulting, and Marketing. She is a trusted business advisor who excels in HR strategy, identifying and developing hi-potential leaders, and is skilled in developing marketing and communication plans. A Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta, together with both a Chartered Accountant and CHRP designation, underpin her business acumen. Wendi is an avid athlete having completed ten marathons, including Boston, Chicago, and New York, plus four Gran Fondo events.
David Lee Fay: David brings more than 20 years of marketing experience to the Society Board of Directors. Following several years in brand management at JM Schneider Inc. and McGuiness Distillers Ltd., he followed his passion for sports and moved into the field of sponsorship marketing. After several years in Toronto and Atlanta, David relocated to Vancouver in 1993 to experience life on the west coast. In 1999 David co-founded Linx Marketing, a sports marketing agency, which currently operates in Vancouver and Edmonton. David has a Business Diploma from Wilfrid Laurier University and an MBA from Royal Roads University.
Dave Diebolt: David provides accounting, assurance, taxation (Canadian and US), general business advisory services and estate planning in the Vancouver marketplace. The industry sectors he focuses on are real estate (development, construction and investment), hospitality, insurance, engineering, P3s, wholesale and retail.
David prides himself on providing excellent client service and finding innovative ways to help organizations achieve their goals and business objectives. David does this using his diverse financial and accounting experience. Some of the value-added services he offers are advising clients on buy/sell issues, formulating tax efficient exit strategies for business owners and representing clients before Canadian and US tax authorities.
A native of Vancouver and a UBC graduate, David obtained his CA in 2003 and joined Manning Elliott as a senior manager in 2008. In the past, he also worked for two international CA firms and as chief financial officer of a private real estate investment firm. An active family man, David enjoys hiking, skiing and kite boarding, spending time with his wife and children, and travelling to Hawaii. He is also pleased to support the Vancouver International Marathon Society as a board member and finance director.
Devin Gallaher: Devin is a marketing and communications professional with over 8 years of experience working with brands across a variety of business sectors. Currently, Devin is an Account Director at Tribal DDB a world wide interactive agency. Specializing in digital strategy, she has managed and led successful campaigns for brands such as CDC Software, BC Hydro, Canpages, Hoopla Entertainment, Ausenco, Alberta Ministry of Health and University of Alberta.
Before joining Tribal DDB, Devin worked in Toronto as the Product Marketing manager for Corus Entertainment. Prior to Corus, Devin lead the account team and managed integrated marketing strategies at Traction Creative for clients such as White Spot Restaurants, Tourism Vancouver, Ivanhoe Cambridge, Original Cakerie and Concord Pacific. Devin holds a BA in Linguistics from the University of Victoria and a Diploma of Marketing Communications from BCIT.
