A message for the Co-Chairs of the 2011 40th Year Celebration:

As co-chairs of the 40th year celebration committee, we would like to acknowledge the vision of the marathon's founders, Jack Taunton, Ivor Davies, and race director Don Basham from the Lions Gate Road Runners, as well as recognize the many dedicated volunteers and visionary event directors who have made the event so successful.  We invite you to browse through this page and learn a little more about the history of the marathon and how it has evolved over the past 40 years.

Thank you to everyone involved who made the 40th Year Celebration, April 30th 2011 a very memorable event! 


Saturday, April 30th 2011 was a fabulous celebration of the 40th year of the BMO Vancouver Marathon. The brunch was MC’d by well-known announcer Steve King, and together with marathon alumni, sponsors, volunteers and other special guests reflected on the past 40 years of this iconic Vancouver event and renowned runners and authors Kathrine Switzer and Roger Robinson here presented. Thank you to everyone who was involved.

 

2011 PROMOTIONS THAT CELEBRATED OUR 40 YEARS

  • 56 registered participants in the 2011 Marathon paid the original registration fee as it was 40 years ago
  • 40 Half Marathon participants for 2011 received a 40% discount to recognize our 40 years
  • 24 8 km participants for 2011 received a 40% discount to recognize the 40 years
  • 85* participants who were born in 1940 are ran for free!
  • 353* participants received a special commemorative birthday bib!
  • Commemorative Distance Markers were being offered to sponsors
